Middle School Athletics

Welcome to the Rockingham County Schools Athletic Program!

You’re joining a tradition of excellence that spans both middle school and high school sports. Many athletes before you have helped build our strong reputation in these areas. We hope you have rewarding experiences here and contribute to making our program even better.

Our athletic program is an important part of your education, helping you grow as a responsible and active member of your school, community, and beyond. We offer sports programs at both the middle school and high school levels, with different requirements for each, so be sure to understand what’s expected at your level.

While academics are our main focus, we believe sports offer valuable lessons and experiences that go beyond the classroom. Our goal is to challenge and support all students, especially those who are passionate about excelling in athletics.

We focus on creating opportunities for all student-athletes to develop skills through individual instruction, peer interaction and competition. While winning is not an end in itself, we believe that our student-athletes' efforts to be their best will lead them to succeed.

Athletic Fee

Rockingham County Schools requires a $40 athletic fee for students participating in school sports programs. This mandatory annual fee must be paid by students regardless of the number of sports they play. It helps cover the costs associated with maintaining athletic facilities, purchasing sports equipment, and funding transportation for away games. The fee also contributes to paying for referees, coaches, and other essential personnel involved in the sports programs. By collecting this fee, the school district ensures that it can provide a comprehensive athletic experience for all students, supporting both the safety and success of its sports teams. This fee is typically collected at the beginning of the sports season and is necessary for students to be eligible to participate in school athletics.

Athletic Insurance Information

The Rockingham County Schools Board of Education has purchased accident insurance for athletes. All athletes in grades 6-12 are covered while practicing for, competing in or traveling to and from as representative of the school and under the direct supervision of a coach, in any athletic activities under the regulations and jurisdiction of the school. The policy is a limited benefit policy and is secondary to all other insurance.
